Yes. Your own personal copy of the blockchain and an SPV indexer running on a mini-pc. Add LND or CLN if you want lightning.

I personally use Bicoin Core and Fulcrum with LND.

I've never been a fan of hardware wallets for several reasons. Mostly because of the false security promises they make. And I would never trust any closed source software.

A node + SPV fixes what you're told about the chain, not who can spend. Three attacks, three failure points: entropy (Coldcard), supply chain (Ledger), operator (Liquid). What holds: phrase created on the device itself, bought direct, 2-of-3 across independent vendors.

Umbrel + LND + btcPayServer + kraken plugin.

Umbrel stays at home. You can have an unlimited amount of Point of Sale terminal apps on staff phones to take payments which connect back to the Umbrel.

They can take a payment in btc and it will immediately be forwarded to kraken and sold. Can withdraw the cash instantly using Osko to any Australian bank account. Time from accepting Bitcoin payment and selling it for cash on kraken is about 3 minutes. Minimises slippage.

useful flow. i'd test stuck forwards, kraken api failure, invoice expiry, and what staff phones can see. the privacy leak is kraken, not umbrel.

Good point on trust: what matters is who holds the keys, and open source only helps if you can verify the builds.
