Update: this is illegal in Florida and the letter they sent summarizing the charges heavily implies that the cleaning wasn't excessive thus voiding their claim to the money. I'm gonna fuck these people hard.

Old landlord took $400 for cleaning out of our security deposit after we spent the entire last day cleaning. The place looked spotless. It was 100x better than when we moved in. I know it's not worth the time and money to sue but I sent them a strongly worded email.

Always take photos 😭 I'm sorry that sucks. When we moved out of our first apartment they did a similar thing. Billed us for cleaning and it was like $20 charge to clean the toilet whenever I CLEANE...

Unfortunately, it's a small enough dollar value to where it's just money they can steal from you if they choose to pull the trigger and there's really not much you can do about it unless you're insistent on going to court and costing yourself more than you'll win back.
