With more Fediverse instances being deployed daily, a new problem might emerge or become visible: accidental DDoS.

If you post a link, each instance that sees the message, will fetch the URL in the message. Not a problem if you have a static website. However, if you already have a slow host, then it suddenly gets to deal with hundreds of requests in a short amount. And with more instances being deployed, the risk might only increase.
