@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... AFAIU it is not a web-based PDF reader. It's a web version of the paper, generated natively from the latex markup (via features of the ACM latex class). I wouldn't say it's a great UX, yet, but I do see the point: PDF is a terrible format for anything other than paper printing. So I appreciate that ACM is trying to move past it for scientific publishing.

New paper out « Mutating the "Immutable": A Large-Scale Study of #Git Tag Alterations » https://arxiv.org/abs/2606.31354 with S. Rapaport, L. Pautet, @nprofile1q... and @nprofile1q... . To be presented at #ACMREP this year.

In it, we show and measure how much git tags, which are assumed by many to be stable, actually mutate, through the lenses of @nprofile1q... . We also correlate our data with tags referenced by #Nix packages, to assess real and potential impact of making assumptions about tag "immutability".

Today, at the @nprofile1q... symposium at #UNESCO headquarters in #Paris, we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the public unveiling of the initiative.

There are oh-so-many-things to talk about, but one of my favorites is the Source Code Exhibition, described here: https://www.sourcecode-exhibition.softwareheritage.org/

It is on display here at UNESCO today, but will also travel around other (physical) places in the future. Kudos to my colleague Mathilde Fichen and the other co-curators with her for this amazing work.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... the most interesting part for me personally was indeed the misalignment (for the most part) between beliefs documented in the literature and reality.

Notwithstanding that, of course, we are not the first to raise the specific alarm about Docker not being a reproducibility silver bullet. The more, the merrier!

There is also a lot to say about the impact of technology hype on science (remember the early Docker days?), but it'll be for another day...

Congrats to @nprofile1q... and @nprofile1q..., for the ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper #award at #MSR2025, for our joint paper «Does Functional Package Management Enable #ReproducibleBuilds at Scale? Yes.»

Details, including link to an #openaccess preprint, at: https://2025.msrconf.org/details/msr-2025-technical-papers/32/Does-Functional-Package-Management-Enable-Reproducible-Builds-at-Scale-Yes-

The paper is going to be presented this afternoon at the conf here in Ottawa.

My team at Polytechnic Institute of Paris/Télécom #Paris school of engineering is looking for a research engineer to conduct development and empirical experiments in various fields, most notable #software #security and #SoftwareEngineering.

Programming skills in #Rust are particularly welcome, even though we are quite polyglots and would also welcome C/Java/OCaml developers 😉

3-year contract, on site in the south of Paris.

I find myself tempted by subscribing #AdBlock Premium to filter out cookie walls and the like. Can anyone confirm that even the premium part if actually free software? (I'm willing to pay for it if it is, much less so if not.) I also welcome direct experience reports from people who tried it, especially if based in the EU.
