@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... I see. I stopped using Google search in 2008, but had stop using Internet Explorer even earlier. I never did get in the habit of using Chrome. I did not realize that if you opened Chrome, it would automatically be at Google Search.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... I do remember. I was doing a bit of research and was spending a lot of time on mainframes and playing across the internet with Archie and FTP and Veronica. Somebody gave me an early web browser, and there were a couple of sites that I could browse to and see, and I commented that I thought that was wonderful, but that as soon as everybody got tired of seeing pretty pictures, instead of getting work done, it would be... be a footnote in history. It would just go away. But then I thought everyone would be getting sick and tired pretty fast of having a rodent on their desk and that would go away too. And now I just feel silly.

What is marketed as AI is Automated Incompetence based upon very smart and valuable language prediction modeling using stolen data. It is rather important to differentiate between the two. Your writing is a excellent description of what is currently being marketed.

I will not be seeing the video since it's at YouTube, which is now owned by Google, the alphabet company, that used to be the "do no Evil" Company, until they decided that wasn't profitable enough, so they're now the, "do all the evil" company. But that said, I snickered at the image and love your browser. Is there any chance you'll put your videos on a peertube site to get it here on the Fediverse?

@nprofile1q... we had an instructor once who gave us a quote, and I don't remember where the quote came from, but it was that "coding is the smallest part of software. It's 50% design and 30% coding and 99.9% long-term maintenance, changes, updates, and bug fixes." he maintained that it doesn't have to be that way. If you take ten times as long on design and development and do it right, then your long term maintenance can be cut to one tenth of that. Of course, almost no company does it that way because they see the initial cost, and make no plans to avoid the long-term cost. Everyone wants it faster and cheaper, and as a result, they get crud. I took this to heart in my career, and when I was doing development, I always quoted a time that was ten times what I thought it would take. They didn't like it, but they accepted it and were happy when I got it down a little bit early. In the process, I avoided having to do a ton of maintenance on my old code.
