The ancients figured it out people will be very stupid in the future. They've designed a story using mnemonic techniques so that the good news will be able to travel even if the most readers would take the words literally or wouldn't believe a word of it. It pays out even if 1 in 10,000 manage to decipher the metaphors and rebuild the Temple by themselves aka rewire their brain according to the hidden meaning of the Bible. Each at their own pace tho.
