The way I made mine was to make a couple of H shaped leg assemblies that the table can rest on so pretty much all of the forces are compressive.

It's held up for 5 years so far and shows no sign of breaking anytime soon, I've stood my fat ass on it more than once to change the lightbulbs above it.

My current solution on my desktop is a btrfs partition with a bunch of random drives and a nightly job that rebalances the data across them if it needs to be (time boxed to 1 hour per night, restarts the night after it ends)

Its not quite zero touch but it does mean that if I replace a drive then it will slowly get redundant copies of data over the next few nights. The big failure mode is that it is not resistant to multiple drives failing before the first one is rebalanced

I keep seeing the "cars replaced horses" thing related to "AI." People keep comparing "AI" to cars (positively) without thinking about the fact that cars were forced on people (AAA bought up and dest...

Around 1900 NYC had a population of 4-5 million and about 200k horses

https://www.newyorkalmanack.com/2021/02/the-unpleasant-side-of-life-with-horses-in-cities/

In 2020, NYC has a population of almost 9 million and 2 million cars

We replaced each single horse with 5 cars in the part of the country with the lowest rate of car ownership, the numbers are probably higher everywhere else. There is absolutely no way that's just replacing horses.

I think the ratchet model for Republicans and corporate Democrats still works.

One side actively makes things worse while the other keeps them from getting better. Of those two I know which one I would rather have but it's really fucking hard to get excited over it.

That's why.

There really needs to be a law that all menus and other price displays should show the final cash price (with the potential to add up to a 5% credit card surcharge for those transactions if desired)

Over the last 3-4 days I've noticed a lot more blatant spam on my Gmail account.

Has anyone else seen this? Did someone slop up the spam filter or something?
