One of my favorite things about physics is that, e.g., a giant star like Betelgeuse is not a perfect sphere but a really lumpy thing because of complex internal dynamics (e.g., radiation pressure versus its atmosphere's low surface gravity).

But the closer something comes to becoming an abstraction, like an electron as a point particle or a black hole, the fewer traits it has and the more it conforms to purely theoretical expectations. Like black holes rotating at nearly the speed of light.

Like, I don't think you get "AI" in its current vainglorious "this will change everything" form without a lot of people forgetting how reality actually works.

The violent disconnect between tech and finance people and reality has a lot to do with how Trump became president because they don't know what anything is for.

Everything either makes them money or is an impediment to making money purely in the short term. Whether a product actually works or even exists is irrelevant. And so Trump, the GOP, and shit like DOGE is just a way to clear away what they see as the detritus, which is the only thing keeping society together.

I think they believe, in a very literal sense, that "AI" lets them rewrite reality. Because that's their experience of money, frankly. They can buy impunity for everything except death and they believe they can conquer that, too.

My mission statement as an author has always been to write women protagonists, especially in roles normally reserved for men, without the implied tokenism of "girl power!" patting myself on the back for doing so. Because women deserve to be taken seriously in whatever role.

That means I'm nowhere near the bleeding edge, of course. I don't try to create an "all new, all different" experience. I just want to bring a female perspective to those stories, something I was personally starved for growing up.

The dynamic in the Trump regime is between ass-kissers like Rubio who will put up with anything to get what they want (i.e., punishing Cuba) and guys like Vought and Miller who can do whatever they want as long as Trump doesn't feel the heat.

Why are Democrats so unpopular?

Well, they helped build this nightmare for one thing, and they keep throwing themselves on grenades on behalf of rich fascist freaks and a genocidal rogue state no one likes.

With few exceptions, it's hard to believe any of these craven weirdos won't capitulate to fascism the first chance they get.

SpaceX literally can't deliver a moon lander because their current plan involves a large number of orbital refueling missions that Starship in its current form cannot successfully make.

Blue Origin's version will be derived from the New Glenn super-heavy rocket, which isn't operational yet either. The most recent static firing test destroyed the rocket and surrounding facility.

Artemis 3 and 4 are going to schedule slip and probably be canceled because private companies failed.

"Why is the right so much more effective at organizing?"

Because they're funded by billionaires who literally dump money onto any project that might have a chance of increasing their power.

Also, "mainstream" politics is dominated by their sycophants.
