Forgive me if I misunderstand something about the inner workings of large language modern, but it strikes me that asking an LLM for sources is pretty much guaranteed to produce a large proportion of bogus citations. LLMs are stochastic systems - they use weights and randomness to choose words that seem like the right thing to say in a scenario. When they do produce valid, relevant citations, I'm pretty sure it's because they're actually plagiarizing other sources that also cited that source.

Is it just me, or is the training behavior of all of the big AI companies just another attempt to put knowledge behind a paywall in much the same way as Aaron Swartz described in the Guerrilla Open Access Manifesto?

I blocked Claude on GitHub a while ago... but now GitHub is no longer showing me the "A user you've blocked has previously contributed to this repository" banner on repos where Claude has contributed. What gives??

What's the latest meta for banning AI from open source projects?

I have a bunch of (mostly MIT-licensed or BSD-licensed) open source projects, and I'd like to implement a ban on generative AI in all of my projects. Should I be doing something to modify the license, or using a code of conduct or contributor agreement, or something else?

I'd like to ban all generative AI use on my projects - code/image/text generation, ingesting my code for AI training, etc.

I really wish that I could search for posts that have appeared on my timeline in the past. Not all of Fedi, just posts written or boosted by those I follow. I often want to find something I've seen before, to link it to someone else, but they're often posts I didn't know I would need later, so I haven't bookmarked them or anything.

Being able to limit it to posts I've favorited, commented on, or boosted would also be nice.
