ELI5: Bitcoin is the first effective alternative for people globally to not get their savings secretly stolen by governments through free money printing.

For thousands of years, proof of work was what “backed” the trade between people. You took a month of hard work to raise a flock of chicken, I took a month to mine and mint a silver block, let’s trade. Only in the recent 50 years, there appeared a new class of people who can print free monopoly paper to exchange for others’ blood sweat and tears.

The printing has been accelerating causing worsening inflation and suffering for the class who can only work for money but not print free money.

In a world where most things seem to get worse and worse, the salary raise most people have every year often is not enough to combat inflation, most fiat currencies devalue 30% or more against the dollar in the last decade, #Bitcoin is hope.
