People need to use nostr for the same reason our mothers made us eat our veggies, can't just intake rage bait algos all day and expect a healthy society

Who's need? ("need to use nostr") - yours or theirs?

Seems the builders/influencers/bloodsuckers are the ones heralding nostr as the great saviour, "needed" by the masses.

Truth is you will never "save" anyone who does not want to be saved.

The masses (as you say) don't give a fuck about decentralisation or privacy - they just want to be amused (distracted).

Agree with @JackTheMimic here - WTF is winning? If a relative few find their way here and benefit (and thats a whole topic in itself as nostr is a very heavy & toxic environment with a fair number of charlatans & outright liars) then its good, right? Its never gonna be high numbers, as to the masses it will always be a worse version of FB, Twitter, etc

Giving it prettier icons doesn't move the needle at all.

Human nature has some very troublesome attributes such as tribalism, ego, status, hierarchy & all social media amplifies this. Nostr is no different - if anything its worse because its such a one dimensional echo chamber - you are never going to get a well balanced argument so you can make your own mind up in such an environment.

If you truly believe in freedom, people can & should do what they believe in; they are not (in all cases at least) "clueless" or "idiots" that need fixing. You can debate intelligently & reason with people but they will not always agree or change their minds to agree with you, nor should they necessarily.

All truth is subjective (apart from a very few select truths that you will never find in society or looking outwards); once you realise this, you see how stupid it is when people argue that their subjective truth is better than someone else's. This is one of the biggest problems with humans as so much hatred comes from this & so many lives lost.

A good start would be a platform for enriching, well rounded conversations that welcome everyone.

Your favorite nostr clients and relays, like primal web you sent this with, will not be around if more users don't come fyi

If a nostr client makes a $5 USD / mo plan, what do you want it to include to consider a great deal?

Would never pay for it.

Have been questioning what true value it has even though its "free".

Not being provocative, would love to hear what value people think they get from it (that cannot be found elsewhere & is not more enriching elsewhere.

Only real reason I have come up with is to help others but appreciate thats vague as fuck.

What do you get from it?

5-8 PRs per day. No delays in developing what users ask for since I just pass it to Claude and merge as soon as it works. What takes me about a week to do, Claude can do in a day. So, it's roughly 5x faster than me.

Spent the weekend + even Monday at 3 different weddings in the north east of England. 3 bloody weddings!! 💒 I met lots of strangers and got lots of startled looks when I explained I make bitcoin...

Second this.

Even speaking with techies / devs, most piss themselves over a new version of some framework that in the grand scheme of things doesn't move the needle at all.

Yet when you talk about Bitcoin. most are completely clueless.

Bugs me that many consider themselves "cutting edge" but don't have a clue about the biggest innovation of our generation!

Being pure consciousness is the answer?

Thats where the magic happens yes.

Your ultimate goal should be to disappear.

(Take Satoshi as an example!)

A diluted version would be to strive to achieve that when possible, and try to avoid any form of ego (again very, very difficult as there are so many traps and they are actively promoted by society & authority).

Think thats a big flaw in all social media - it focusses on likes, follows, identity, etc - pure ego.

You definitely don't want to be a dead-on-the-inside asshole building your "personal brand". This will only hurt you long term.

Many rely on this for making money which is another big issue. It propagates the problem. We end up with false prophets that don't offer anything you can't find out for yourself (often with a much better understanding), and just end up wrapped up in themselves.

Being generous to them they may in some cases offer info in a distilled form, but convenience has a huge cost.

Shortcuts are very rare, if they even exist. Nothing worth having comes easy.

NOSTR can address this.

Do away with the identities - the "big" personalities & make it solely about the conversation & growth. Accounts become anonymous but those offering value can still be financially rewarded.

Everyone becomes equal as any form of id is gone.

I love the idea of solely focusing on conversation and growth. The identification and ego issue is for sure something I'm contemplating. Reading Eckart Tolle again does that. Makes for some interesting introspective moments. How would you go about making an online persona? Making money off podcas...
