Folding phones aren’t really for me honestly, but I get the appeal for many people, and absolutely all of the folding phones are absurdly priced I think, the android ones are just as much if not more in some cases

I'll run with that, then. Much better than my desperate flippancy, in which I just say: "This is for drugs and girlfriends." Which, while it always draws a laugh, isn't the best thing for me to say. 😂

This has nothing to do with actual meat eating. Stick to the basics: beef, fat, salt. Liquids are just a distraction from the primal fuel supply.

1: Refill butane torch lighter outside
2: Test it outside where it's bright
3: Can't see flame, but can hear the gas escaping when used, wonder its broken or just a flame rendered invisible by sunlight
4: Stick finger where flame should be
5: Yup. Found the flame, and a new blister on my hand.

Yeah I'm kinda a moron sometimes.

Why haven't you invited your friends and family to Nostr? I'm not saying you should do that at all, just curious about the reasons. Especially if you think there is possibly anything that we could do...

Because I don't push people to Nostr in the same way I don't push people towards RSS, Linux, or self hosting. Even though some family members are rather advanced tech users, I'm the only one who's actually made a hobby out of tech. Most people I know, and all of my family members, just use tech as a tool. None of us are big on social media either.

(I've actually only met the first IRL user of Linux less than two years ago when a co-worker tried Manjaro. I'm yet to meet someone IRL who I know uses Nostr/ActivityPub/AT, crypto, or any other decentralized protocol).

Right now, if somebody has no interest in tech as a hobby, a vanilla Nostr (and other protocols) experience probably won't bring much value to the average user. Since the userbase 'seems' less saturated with Crypto content, and with the advent of the more whimsy side of things like Ditto or alternative stuff (nsites, magazines, chats, ect) that might change in the future.

The barrier isn't the protocol, it's that the average person just wants their tools to vanish into the background until they do the job. 🕊️ You can check our daily survival story & updates pinned at the top of my profile if you'd like to read more.

You’re right—most people just want tools that work, not hobbies. But I’d argue Ukraine’s tech adaptations show even non-enthusiasts can adopt new systems under pressure. Read this on how necessity drives innovation, even for non-techies: https://theboard.world/articles/ukraine-tech-defense...

My weather saga continues. After dealing with the storm itself I spent a long day in Buffalo. Right as I left I thought the weather was crazy, with super hard rain and a bunch of standing water on the roads.

Turned out it got WAY worse right after I left.
