A while back I was on here complaining about how I got invited to a women’s #zine group but there was no hands-on zine making and there was talk of hiring a graphic designer and it bummed me out because that wasn’t what I was expecting.

I suggested we make a fast #DIY zine as a precursor to the professional publication the group was envisioning. Well, this is the result. A short, cut & paste zine about #Florida #nature. Poetry & first person writing, intimate & immediate.

I moved to a place thinking there was no #punk/DIY activity here and I've been proven wrong. Definitely doesn't go as hard as other cities I've lived in but at my age, I don't go as hard as I used to either, so the current local scene activity is just enough.

There have been very cool DIY shows at the skatepark downtown and now there's a #ZineFest. I'll be tabling #ParadiseLostZine along with the ladies' eco-lit zine group I'm a part of. #zines

In the West, people seem to only understand death as tragedy but in Nigeria where my parents are from, when people die of old age, after living a full and prosperous life, we celebrate them. Dolly’s death feels fully resolved to me. She got her flowers while she was still alive. She knew what she meant to the entire world. If you never listened to the Dolly Parton’s America podcast, you should. RIP to an icon. Her songwriting, her humor, her non-judgmental presence. What an angel. 🦋

My old band New Bloods is being featured as part of this free exhibition at Great Park Gallery in Irvine, #California. There's a festival to kick things off this Saturday, August 29 and then the gallery show runs through November 29. Wish I could go but it's clear across the country.

"Grrrl Germs is an exhibition showcasing the creativity and passion behind the #punk #feminist movement #RiotGrrrl. It features five music listening areas, fliers, #zines; and more."

The last post I retooted about how to find a decent vintage bike made me wanna post about mine. I have no idea how it ranks in the minds of vintage bike enthusiasts but it’s a Shogun steel frame I believe made in Japan in the 80s, originally set up by my old friend @nprofile1q.... One of the many reasons I love this little tank is because of the shorter cross bar. In searching for a bike that fit me, I learned I have longer legs and a short torso compared to the “average.” (1/3)

I used to have this trio called Voodoo Economics in Philly in the naughties. We were constantly told we were unclassifiable, but you might hear some or all of: Dance, electro, funk, prog, jazz fusion...

@nprofile1q... there’s another band I think you might be interested in. Did you ever hear Aloha? I was only into their first LP “That’s Your Fire.” They were a very creative indie rock band with vibraphones and I believe they used the arp odyssey on some songs. Not sure if I remember that detail correctly. Anyway, they come to mind when I listen to this VE album. Let me know what you think if you end up checking them out.

@nprofile1q... lol. I wouldn't say posh because there weren't really many benefits attached to it but we were flattered. There are other punk bands we were influenced by that had violins but they also had guitars. I always hated that the guitar drowned out the violin, especially live, so we decided to not have guitar.

And most of them are playing folk stuff. Related: your playing on the song Fast ...

@nprofile1q... Here's a Bandcamp.fm link but you can find New Bloods everywhere. A label released our music so it's on all the platforms.

Ludus is incredible. Late 70s post-punk from Manchester, England. Similar genre-defying sound. Linda Sterling is an incredible visual artist, too. Let me know what you think.

Voodoo Economics is incredible. I'll find more words once I'm done listening.

I always just assume that everyone's band from those years was equally under the radar. I'll check out New Blood...

@nprofile1q... I'm finally sitting down to listen to the entire album from beginning to end. I scanned through a few tracks last night and your band reminds me somewhat of the band Ludus. Are you a fan of Linda Sterling at all?

Also, I'm surprised our bands never crossed paths since we were active at the same time. I played violin in a post punk band 2006-2008 called New Bloods. We toured a bunch, including to Philly. Would've made a great lineup!
