@nprofile1q... We went to Curacao some years back. Photo opportunities are all over the place, particularly, I think its on the way to the city center where you can see all the multi-colored houses in a row. For food I recommend you try an Indonesian (the Dutch colonized Indonesia also) eating experience called "rijjsttafel" which means rice table. it's a number of small dishes across the savory/sweet divide. Don't know which restaurant is best now, but definitely try to find it.

I haven't posted a thought experiment in a while. But, its the first month of a year that is sure to be dramatic, so here the first this year: When something particularly violent happens in the US and you hear someone important say "This is not who we are." What is your reaction to that statement? Agreement, relief, anger, confusion, disappointment?

I rarely comment on Black History stuff but MLK Day creates a moment of interest convergence. His words about how White allies are so often willing to settle for less than full rights of the poor, Black and other non white people still resonates today. Pay attention as your elected Dem Senators argue for more training for I.C..E. rather than shutting that goon squad down. Nothing has changed since he wrote that decades ago.

This year the the Malcolm Wiener Center for Social Policy at Harvard s hosting sessions on Criminal Law as a Tool of Authoritarian Control. The next workshop is Wednesday, Oct 15 and will focus on militarization of border controls. The workshops are free and virtual.

Many of us are ensnared in the fight against fascism at the moment. But remember the three tenets: Don't comply in advance; take up space; keep joy. Being joyful is resistance. So last night went to see jazz vocalist Lizz Wright. In her live rendition of FREEDOM she got so emotional, she had to walk the stage to calm herself. So appropriate and inspiring and then she rolled it into "I WON'T GO BACK. Great show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMKplNM5Vws

She stated it didn’t mean the slogans were wrong, but the conditions that allow them to be true are not always present. 6/8

Just about everyone in the audience were experienced abolitionists, which was a refreshing change for me, fewer basic facts. 1/8
