The portuguese thrive in misery and pain.
They love uncomfortableness.
Just ask any expat that moved there what portuguese homes and furniture is like.
Functional but not meant to comfort.
Why?
Because you don't need comfort to work and there shouldn't be a time that you are not working aside from when your sleeping.
