@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... The same guy who developed Tetraethyl Lead also worked on CFCs and they were a similar disaster. But they were both sufficiently tangential to the economy that with sufficient pressure, industry gave them up. Sadly AI is already shaping up to be in the same category as the fossil fuel industry: So entrenched that it may have to be prised out of the cold, dead hands of capitalism, to use a grim analogy. ☹️

@nprofile1q... I'm in denial and I'm staying there. This has always been a problem with having relentless growth, you reach a point where productivity is so high that you can't find enough consumption to justify the production. We arguably passed that point in the developed world some way back and have been propping the whole thing up with massive waste and overconsumption. JK Galbraith was writing about this 60 years ago. @nprofile1q... Sadly there's still quite a bit of denialism around in the red wall voters that Burnham is supposed to win back. As soon as he takes a position, the right instantly have a stick to beat him with. Being right doesn't necessarily get you re-elected. Just ask Nigel!

@nprofile1q... I seem to remember the P4 design was also intended for use with RAMBUS memory which got rejected by the rest of the industry. Intel were reluctant to go DDR I think?
