I need a Debian VM for the tech edits on #n4sa2e. Switched to the Mac, so I need to set up a new one. Reminded once again that you can 95% set up a working Linux box by hitting ENTER in the installer...

@nprofile1q... My experience with the Debian installer is giving the partition table a manicure because there is no “this is an EFI system” button, or a “do the right thing but use XFS instead of Ext4”.

FreeBSD lets me pick and choose between ZFS and UFS, BIOS and EFI boot, or both.

@nprofile1q... I had an idea what we can use instead of pkgbase. FreeBSD has support for readonly root, we may have incremental zfs-send images with snapshots and use zfs-recv and bectl for upgrades. Directories that need to be writable need to be separate filesystems, so we would need a slightly different zfs layout than what is standard today.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... This was the feature that got me to switch to FreeBSD. After yet another botched Linux after a supposedly uneventful package upgrade, I had enough.

I love having a completely empty pkg for a clean installation, and the knowledge that anything is safe to uninstall. Why copy Linux distros on this.
