I have picked the lavender and the garlic scapes and added leaf mulch to the bare beds. Tired but still much to do. My garden isn’t that productive on a space basis, but I love it, it’s chaotically diverse, and it’s very very satisfying.

I’m really tired of being condescended to by doctors when they ask what exercise I do and I say gardening. Dude, I moved 1600lb of mulch and compost twice this week and pulled three feet high weeds by hand for six hours. Do you even know how many squats that is?

Got the tomatoes, eggplant, squashes and cucumbers in the ground in the new beds. The deer can hop the fence there so hoping to befuddle them with all the stakes and cages and whatnot. Gave away the last of the seedlings to four other gardeners and got a couple tomatoes and delicata squash in return, thereby connecting us all in a web of gardening goodwill.

Today’s transfer station adventure was to get free mulch for the garden. Then spouse noticed in the brush pile, someone had dumped a lot of really nice looking bamboo. We clipped off all the side branches and then realized we didn’t have the cross bars on the roof rack.
No problem! We’ve got bamboo, all the kayak straps you could need, and grew up watching Giligan’s Island reruns.

Have potted up 3/4 of the seedlings from the old tired seeds that mostly all germinated. We’re going to need a bigger garden…

Luckily my neighbor will take some but I was obliged to take some tomatoes from her, after being very very good and not succumbing to tomato greed last weekend at the plant sale. Best laid plans.

Middle child, trying to find something to do this bank holiday weekend, convinces friends to go hike Seven Sisters because they want to be outside away from crowds to commune with nature.

Success!
Planted 8 dahlias, 6 kinds of beans (thank you @nprofile1q... ) gladiolus, last couple of chard plants. Weeded the berries.
Today was the day the local greenhouse releases their tomatoes, so half the town shows up at 10 to grab the best varieties. I ran into several people I know, including the uni ornithologist and learned when to go to see the gallinule (4 visits/0 bird). Offloaded several of my surplus dahlias and seed potatoes to her, too.
Now off to the library plant swap.
