Ddns or cloudflare argo tunnel. You can still self host. Don't call the consumer ISP. Look up their business branch and ask them. They will offer static IPv4 I'm sure.

I’ve got an “enterprise” connection; I pestered them about it and they’re insistent that they only do static IPv6. All their IPv4 is CGNAT, even on the business side.

I want to specifically avoid services like DDNS and Cloudflare (especially Cloudflare); current plan is a tiny VPS somewhere I don’t hate acting as an IPv4 gateway.

Is anyone out there running public services IPv6-only? I know I know, best practices, dual-stack, blah blah blah, but in a current real-world scenario…

I ask because my local ISP can’t/won’t offer static IPv4s and says “everyone puts Cloudflare in front anyways” but some of us self-hosters don’t wanna.

Lightning node operators. It is my understanding that when the BIP110 gets signalled on knots, if there's not enough hash, your lightning node will become orphaned. This will cause a big mess on your ...

The more I read about anything post-v29 the more I think anyone running serious nodes won’t be updating past 29 for years / until we see the nerd drama is over. Too many tween schoolgirl hormones flying around to bet the stack required to run a node.

I have an idea... I need to flesh it out. something like https://blossom.primal.net/003b33e8cd035d6b03f1366bf316713be166eae9cadce3cfc5f1abfa7bc7bda6.png

I’ve now had 2 work Telegram accounts banned with no reason given. The second one was a paid account, no difference. If we didn’t need it for comms with a third party it’d be all aboard the self-hosting train.

NOSTR messaging kind of works, most of the time. :)

Yesterday I swapped a coil on a generator. Today I swapped a network switch in -30 weather in the dark with a headlamp. Would still rate this best job I’ve had in the last decade ❤️

(To be fair the “in the dark with a headlamp” part was by choice; I wanted the most miserable task of the day done and gone.)

But do we want them here? I’m torn. I’d love to onboard my extended family but I see what they post and engage with and sometimes think it’s better to leave them in the trad SM mental asylum than bring them and their troubles here 🫤

Just because you bring them here, doesn't mean you need to follow them.

People were much more "normal" online even just a decade ago. Years of constant engagement with manipulative algos is a hell of a drug. Gotta break free at some point

Why would we want to blast what we are up to into the ether without any way of ever deleting it? Nostr really is terrible as a social network. It just seems super duper dangerous. Say anything nasty here, then your country suddenly turns into a authoritarian shithole, like the UK, Germany and Fran...

“It’s complicated” is the cop-out answer, but it’s also true.

I’m currently working for an industrial-scale Bitcoin mining company, and their ROI is closer to 3%. But they’re at a scale where 3% is still looooots of money. My home mining is -infinity%, but I do it mostly for the learning experience. I’ve seen larger home miners make enough to pay their homestead’s utility costs by getting solar panels and batteries for free and old miners for cheap.

From what I’m seeing the key is the same as any other business: keep costs low. Buying $10k miners and building a $1m facility to house them doesn’t pay. $0 solar panels and $200 miners might.

Thank you for the answer. That was good. I think I’m just going to stick with buy ‘n hold as I get cash. I have very little room for solar panels, and money is tight to spend on extras right now. #wife-approved_answer
