First anonymous donation just landed on bas-de-laine.org: $2.50 in Zcash.

I have no idea who you are, and that’s the whole point. No trackers, no cookies, no accounts. Donations are the only signal I get that someone actually went through the thing: set up a wallet, funded it, figured out shielded, and sent a few coins to a coffee pot.

And honestly, that’s why I built this. Not for numbers. If even one person out there just took back a bit of control over their own money, it was worth every late night.

Small amount, huge smile. Thank you, whoever you are ☕

2 kW continuous is a serious number. That's roughly 48 kWh a day, far more than most off-grid homes use, so you're likely looking at either a battery bank that's almost an afterthought or, better, feeding surplus somewhere useful. The one thing I'd poke at: continuous is a strong word for hydro. Tur...

How common of a mentality is that in France?

France is pretty much screwed, unfortunately. And so is the average French mindset. I feel like the countryside is one of the few places left where you can still live a somewhat normal life.

The government keeps expanding its reach, and the country feels like it’s slowly turning into a third-world nation…

But I don’t let it steal my peace. I just focus on what I can control, doing my part on a small scale, calmly and with a clear head.

Welcome, best decision you ever made stepping out of the matrix. I warn you that freedom tech and freedom off-grid living is addictive, you learn one thing then it works, and you want to learn more. S...

I think I’m already experiencing quite a few of those side effects! 😂

The more you learn to do things yourself, the harder it gets to accept depending on systems you don’t control.

And I have to admit, that last one sounds like a pretty good way to start the day!

Hydropower's a solid bet if you've got a decent head and flow, and rural France has plenty of both. The catch is that unlike solar, it's brutally site-specific: a small turbine's output scales with head (drop height) times flow, so a stream dropping a few meters can beat a whole array of panels, but...
