Today I escaped my first Escape Room.

At the request of my second eldest son, I threw my horde into our vehicle and drove halfway across the greater Phoenix area to get locked in a room with no technology for an hour. The only way they would let us out is if we solve a series of puzzles.

It was actually really fun! I think we'll be doing it again. No one even complained they couldn't use their phone. I don't think they even noticed the absence. Money well spent.

The longer I work in tech the more I think a nicer cabin in the woods would be really nice.

One more week. At this point, it's already determined that I'll never have to take another English class again. Ever.

I was dropping off my car at the shop this morning for some routine maintenance. The guy that was taking my details looked..... well...... horrible. A little disheveled and huge bags under his eyes. He apologized to me and said he only got 6 hours of sleep last night.

Now, I'm not 100% he wasn't just loaded at work, but 6 hours??? I got barely over 5. That's not even rare for me. How much sleep do people normally get??? 6 hours I'd feel pretty damn rested. I haven't gotten 8 hours for a week.

I'm writing a research paper for my English class right now, and after I finished writing a paragraph for it, I thought it would be wise to plop it into a scanner to make sure it wasn't coming back as AI generated. To be clear, I wrote it 100%. No AI used. The detector came back 73% AI generated. Sooo, I revised the ever living shit out of that paragraph and then reran the scan. 82% after my revisions. AI scanners are bullshit.

This is going to be a dumpster fire. Musk has already sued, and even if the case goes against him, he'll appeal. The first thing they'll do is demand and injunction stopping these new guys from providing a product. Irreparable harm blah blah blah. If that gets denied they'll find someone who will grant it. That's the way the American legal system works. Rich people sue and then appeal until they get the decision they want. This won't be different.

There seems to be a prevailing idea in tech that Apple is a "good guy" company. In my opinion, this is largely due to PR and not to the behavior of the actual company itself. I'm not a fan of OpenAI, but I'm also not a fan of Apple. I think it's suspicious a company like Apple, who has struggled for years to get even a minor foothold in the AI market, is now suing an industry leader in that market. This "if it doesn't have anything to hide" logic doesn't play for me.
