@nprofile1q... As @nprofile1q... already said, there are strong subsidiarity arguments against the EU regulating behaviour at the level of the individual citizen beyond being an economic actor. Also, to answer your question: if the supply chain does a good job, this should not be a big issue. Which is a massive if, indeed.

Same for whatever implementation of the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime you are living under in your jurisdiction. Also for webcrawlers that ignore robots.txt. They are committing a criminal offence.

I really do not get why nobody is running to their public prosecutors to have a go at this.

I am baffled why people are going "oh no what is to be done" about openai breaking into a competitors computers, when it is incredibly obvious: Charge them under the CFAA. "Oh but their research". Sandbox it from the Internet. "Oh it's too hard to do that". Skill issue, get good. Show more

@nprofile1q... A random card carrying the same name as on your ticket does not make for an identity check. Because that could also be created by yourself. There is no way for them to check the provenance and authenticity of, especially, a German drivers' license.

As much as I dislike Danish violations of Schengen, or the papers please society we've descended it into, it is not unreasonable for a transport company to want to be able to verify that the holder of a named ticket is that person. And for that purpose your German drivers' license would not work for Dutch Railways either.

Running the risk of mansplaining, but in quite a few EU member states their national drivers license is a valid ID, but foreign ones are not, simply because they have not yet been standardised across the EU. Especially the German ones are a nightmare because some German states have issued drivers licenses with indefinite validity.
