Crazy... After a week of continuous use with Debian (with daily reboots in the morning), my Logitech MX Mechanical keyboard suddenly started acting up: some letters got stuck and were displayed dozens of times while I was typing. Other keys weren't registering at all.
Well, I thought, maybe there’s something wrong with the keyboard—dirt, crumbs, dust, or something like that. So I switched keyboards to an MX Keys—exactly the same issue. No improvement even with a third keyboard (Cherry, via cable).
So I removed the built-in NVMe with Debian, installed one with Zorin OS—absolutely no input errors. Same thing with an NVMe running Fedora. Everything back to normal. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. The mysterious mysteries of Linux. 😆

At least I can now continue to use GrapheneOS with a clear conscience, which is an incredible relief for me and my workflow! I bought a Pixel 10 Pro XL shortly after it was released, which then sat in storage for a long time because porting it to GrapheneOS took longer than expected “thanks” to the new restrictions imposed by Google (which was not GrapheneOS's fault, but Google's attempt to screw with custom ROMs).
Since this device is practically brand new, hopefully it will work and receive GrapheneOS updates until this fascist nightmare in the US is over. Or until there is an independent European solution during this time. My dream would be a completely Android-independent, free smartphone operating system, as Huawei has achieved in China.

Okay, I just checked: it's true. GrapheneOS Foundation in Toronto. But isn't Daniel Micay American? Wasn't that a US-based project with CopperheadOS and then Graphene? According to Wikipedia, the current foundation was only established in Toronto in March 2023. What and where was it before that? I have a vague memory of it somewhere in the back of my mind, which is why I reacted that way.

I have been using these services and manufacturers for a long time, but only in parallel and occasionally. My main systems and services have been open source solutions for years. Apple products, for example, are more of a gimmick, a technical curiosity, or useful for monitoring my heart condition. Google, because basically everyone has an account there, even if, like me, it's only for YouTube (where I used to regularly post videos about Linux and such until two years ago). Amazon, because it's convenient to order a few everyday items there that you can't find in local stores. And I admit to watching the occasional series on Prime Video. But now it all has to go!
The only thing that will hurt is giving up a de-Googled smartphone with GrapheneOS, because of the calendar function and synchronization with my other computers when I'm on the go. I guess that means a return to the good old pocket calendar.
Considering that under Trump, the US is turning into a fascist terror state where opponents of the orange leader are simply shot dead on the street by his private Gestapo, ICE, or persecuted by his terror justice system, I am considering completely disposing of all US hardware and services that I still use to some extent.
In addition to Linux and Pixel with GrapheneOS, I unfortunately still use a few Apple devices such as MacBook Air, iPhone, Watch, and iPad Mini, and of course I also have a Google and Amazon account for some services. And it is precisely these that now need to be carefully deleted or replaced.
This includes the Pixel with GrapheneOS, both of which come from the US, and there's no telling what else the GrapheneOS team will be forced to do by this criminal government. Under fascism, there is no freedom, no privacy!
In the end, all that's left is an old dumb phone from Nokia. Apple, Amazon, and Google must go completely, and they can be replaced. It's purely for convenience that I haven't completely eliminated them yet. The planned Framework laptop is also canceled. Fedora/RHEL must be replaced by European Linux solutions. Signal, as a US service, also falls under the Cloud Act and is no longer acceptable.
I have a lot of planning and work ahead of me now...

Thank you... yes, the memories will remain, but I will also miss the long nights spent talking about God and the world over a good bottle of wine with him. In my entire circle of friends, he was the only one who possessed such intellect. That, too, makes him irreplaceable.
Oh oh, I haven't done anything here for a really long time—but health comes first.
And to make matters worse, I lost a very, very good friend more than a week ago, who was taken by the damn MRSA germ... Rest in peace, my friend, you will never be forgotten! 😢
But during my own convalescence, I had enough time to return to my roots with Linux and switch my systems back to the tried and tested, beloved, and familiar. And I'm now leaving the time of experiments and trials behind me for good. In the end, you always find your way back to what has worked best for you for a long time, right?
So my main system is running Fedora Linux again, my second system is running Debian, and my ThinkPad P51 is running FreeBSD as always.
My ThinkPad T490s is running a completely slimmed-down version of Windows 10 IoT LTSC because of the built-in LTE modem, which cannot be made to work under any version of Linux. And I need this feature when I'm on the go, plus I'm paying for the SIM card with a contract. Apart from that, the battery life is significantly better with the slimmed-down Windows 10 than with Linux. Unfortunately, that's a fact.
So that's how things stand as we head into the new year.

A political appeal by a democratically minded European based on the dramatically changing situation and its consequences in the field of technology and IT:
Guys, if for whatever reason you are still working with Windows (or Apple, Google...), I can only urge you to take the current circumstances as a reason to switch to Linux and free software! Never has such a switch been more appropriate and important!
The end of Windows 10, Microsoft's coercion towards MS accounts and cloud compulsion, all the advertising spam from MS within Windows 11, the artificial hardware requirements for it, the AI compulsion in Windows, the data exploitation including data sales and telemetry behavior, the integrated spyware, and so many other negative and bad things!
And on top of that, there are the current political developments in the fascist states of America. Uneducated idiot, fascist, anti-democrat and narcissist with a severe minority complex – and best friend of child molester Epstein – Trump is turning the country into a fascist dictatorship, and the big American tech companies are bowing to the convicted criminal, most recently Tim Apple– ready to hand over all the data he demands and install surveillance tools, and not even stopping at Europe and Europeans.
Trump's hatred of Europe is well known, as is his admiration for war criminal and mass murderer Putin. Who knows what other brown crap will spill over the Atlantic to us.
That's why, dear people, and especially those outside the US (unfortunately, we can't help the good and decent people there, but they elected the brown problem in the White House themselves): Linux and free software now!

I know, but it didn't work with the standard kernel 6.1 or with the relatively new 6.12 that I installed. All kernel versions that worked perfectly with the Beelink on Fedora or Arch. And on my ThinkPads, up to the T490s and P51, this Debian ISO works absolutely trouble-free. So there must be something wrong with Debian that it doesn't work at all on this hardware configuration. Anyway, ticked off. Back to Fedora. Or do I give Tumbleweed a chance? I don't know yet, have to think about it first. But today is generally not a good day...

In Live ISO, the screen flickers constantly and then freezes quickly
I'm really, really disappointed... I wanted to install Debian on my Beelink Mini-PC now - but it doesn't work! Whether with KDE or GNOME, the screen freezes immediately after the first boot, then goes black after a while and crashes.
Reinstalled several times, with a pure KDE installation it was even a bit more “usable”, and could also install the latest kernel, but in the end only freezes again.
Switching from Wayland to X didn't help either. I can't even do troubleshooting because everything crashes immediately after logging in and the screen goes black.
The same ISO runs on all my ThinkPads without any problems. Apparently Debian is not really compatible with my Beelink Mini hardware? Fedora, openSUSE Tumbleweed or Arch run out of the box on the Mini PC without any problems.
This really sucks.
