who would've thought the majority of performance issues could be fixed with simple database indexes 😅

i never regret choosing mysql for pixelfed.social, I've seen too many horror stories with postgres, like the recent mastodon.cloud migration.

why do people still use postgres??

I also heard horror histories about MySQL and never had an issue with Postgres even in unforgiving embedded “IoT” environments, with timescale db driving up the surface area for nonsense to happen. Maybe we are just that good or others got unlucky.

Pixelfed Stories is being updated to support "layers" which will add interactive regions that represent links, comments, votes and more to each Story.

I'm working on a FEP for Ephemeral Posts too. Stories shouldn't be a Pixelfed-only thing!
