It’s always amazing to see how an entirely new plant can emerge from a single piece of rhizome. The variegation develops in its own unique way, giving every Plant a character of its own.

I’m excited to see how this one develops and what the next leaves will look like. 🌱

Die Pflanze im Video stammt aus einem Rhizom der Mutterpflanze, die ich hier bereits gezeigt habe. 😊

Immer wieder beeindruckend zu sehen, wie aus einem Stück Rhizom eine komplett neue Pflanze entsteht. Die Panaschierung entwickelt sich dabei ganz individuell, sodass jede Pflanze ihren eigenen Charakter bekommt.

Ich bin sehr gespannt, wie sich diese hier weiterentwickelt und wie die nächsten Blätter aussehen werden. 🌱

Alocasia macrorrhiza ‘Splash’ is a rare variegated form of the giant taro, distinguished by its irregular splashes and streaks of pigment loss.
This pattern results from somatic variegation — a spontaneous mutation where certain cell lines lose or unevenly produce chlorophyll during tissue development.

While this phenomenon has minimal impact on the plant’s vitality, it renders each specimen a unique genetic mosaic — no two leaves ever mirror each other, either in structure or hue.

Ihre unregelmäßigen Sprenkel und Streifen entstehen durch eine somatische Variegation, bei der einzelne Zelllinien während des Wachstums Chlorophyll verlieren oder ungleichmäßig ausbilden.

Dieses Phänomen beeinflusst die Pflanze kaum in ihrer Vitalität, macht jedoch jedes Exemplar zu einem einzigartigen genetischen Mosaik.
