I think what you are referring to possibly is them helping neighbors and community members build things. This is because they know others will help them build things in the future and them all being stronger and safer makes their community and children better. You are referring to voluntary communism which is what many small communities, families, and friend groups do. But the best communes have very open dialogue and a set of clear rules and expectations. Still need the judge/arbitrator.

Human nature to compare, even though unhealthy, is a very real heirarchy. They type of car your drive to the type of shoes you wear. There is a heirarchy to all of it. Person 1 makes 100 wodgets an hour. Person 2 makes 50nwidfets and hour under the same circumstances. You will demotivate the 100 widget person to only make 50 if both get the same amount of things for their time and effort.
