I gamemaster #Pathfinder RPG 1e with variant rules and I like to tweak my monsters.

I paint metal #miniatures.

I like learning about The Divestiture (of AT&T). I like pre-Divestiture telephones, though I only own one red Cortelco Kellogg 2500 Desk Telephone.

I like writing with a fountain pen, but I'm not a fountain pen collector.

I wrote a first draft manuscript but I keep procrastinating edits and further drafts.

Moved from Win10 to #Linux on 12 June 2023.

I also play #NWN:EE.

After I posted I went and deleted the individual notes for Shows and Movies that I had created. I'll just tag them as Shows and Movies instead, so I don't have to compulsively make a note for every time I watch something.

I left the notes for video games, as I play far fewer individual games so keeping notes on all of them should not be an overwhelming endeavor.

I'm probably not the best person to use as a sample for organizational software design.

If I don't make a daily routine of it, I'll just stop using it. I don't need to use it for anything, so there's no necessity to bring me back to it.

I am a compulsive organizer though. I hate incomplete sets. If I note one thing in a category ("I watched [[movie name]] today."), I want to note all the things in that category, which makes it into homework. Solution, of course, is don't do that, but that's hard.

I am a compulsive organizer. If I have a bunch of files, they're going in a folder. If the program structure is such that it fights back against that, I'm not inclined to use it.

Right now I have a bunch of folders, which I like. Hierarchical directory structure is my jam.

Keeping up with any program all the time (daily? weekly?) is not my jam. I don't actually need Obsidian for anything, I'm just using the software for fun and because I kept hearing it mentioned.

I haven't been posting as much recently. It's definitely because I've just been writing more of my thoughts and activities in #Obsidian.

I don't love Obsidian, but it's growing on me. I don't know how long I'll keep with it though because keeping with it kind of feels like homework.

Well, I mean I don't want my Dad to read it, but he won't. My writing would offend him and he'd be angry about it, but before that he would freely give me some incorrect writing advice. His opinions are bad, and often freely given, but thankfully he doesn't value mine so I can keep them to myself. (He's one of these Dunning-Kruger guys that always thinks he's the smartest person in the room.)

It would be nice if my siblings were more interested though.

Oh, no, you misunderstand. I've been in writers' groups. I was in a pretty good one for several years pre-Covid that definitely helped me improve. That's not the issue. I know about avenues to seek legitimate criticism.

The issue, as with the person posting to FESSHOLE, is just getting FAMILY to look at anything I create. My family are not reliable critics (historically, they're extremely harsh and disinterested), but I still want them to read my stuff.

The party gathered and prepared to hunt an #obour, a #vampire spirit that appeared in #Wayfinder fanzine.

Not a published author, but I feel this. I can't even get family to read an opening chapter of my draft.

My brother-in-law read three pages and asked "why don't you use AI for feedback?" So I requested he return what he had. My sister still has it though, as she asked to take a look at that point, over a year ago.

My brother told me he would do one editing pass once when I feel it's finished, so I'm going to try to hold him to that, but it feels like an empty promise.

Reading this, it reminded me of 'No Exit' by Jean-Paul Sartre.

Your dream characters as-described could be partially mapped onto the characters in the play that are trapped in a room together for Eternity.

It's a depiction of Hell that ultimately concludes "Hell is other people."

That's interesting. Maybe I will incur a sub-optimal Obsidian experience, but some of that advice I actively dislike.

I am familiar with directories/folders already as a sorting device, so I'll keep them.

I'm not going to develop a style/standards doc and adhere to it. If I have a style, it's emergent, based on how I design my templates and interact with the software, rather than predetermined.

I do like his inline linking example though. It's a good example.
