@KaiserKitty @CrunkLord420 I'm curious, did you do bioinformatics because of the Sseth cancer stream? It seems that every bioinformaticist I've bumped into was introduced to the field because of him.

But like I said the industries that are genuinely struggling and need new hires/apprentices lack viable education pathways and don't pay enough for a 20-something who needs a decent paycheck to afford modern rent. My mother suggested I get into repairing sewing machines as there's only one guy in my area that does it full time; however, the guy's 70 and hates me, is partially deaf, and only makes 35k a year...

Boomers will complain about their industries dying and nobody being there to replace them while also providing zero educational pathway for youths to take the reigns once they retire. I've been looking at an industry with a shortage of human capital due to the main employee base retiring out and found that unless you're willing to travel hundreds of miles to one of the less than half-dozen technical schools still each teaching the practice and spend thousands on overpriced government equipment, you'll have to be an autodictact and build the equipment yourself, filtering out 95% of potential apprentices. If I wasn't of a computer background born too late to ride the tech boom and looking for other industries to enter, I wouldn't have been able to "get in."
