I haven't been much of a gamer since my SNES, Amiga, DOS and Windows XP days. Yesterday I was curious as to how many modern games the second hand i7 8th gen 16gb ram 630 iGPU 1080p laptop and minipc I was given supports on Steam. Of 17,000+ titles, they only meet the minimum requirements for 386, mainly because of the GPU. 386 seems apt. I was gobsmacked at how reliant modern steam gaming is on GPUs. So I went to itch.io instead and played Godot and Unity Engine games in the browser fine... 🙃

I was thinking about how to write a cross compatible package manager for operating systems and came to the conclusion that packages need a manifest of what they support, and operating systems need a manifest of hosts they support. With shims for cross compatibility, eg. X11 to wayland to Windows DWM. All the way down to kernels and their components. Such that a universal package manager would build entire distros. Chose components and it knits you cross compatible custom systems. No OS lockin.
