I actually think that Brave may have been the problem? Brave's shields were up for nostr:npub1uf9gd9pax7534dy96mu603nqjlp9mht8az73ka0dy54rcfnvlxasumv8xc, I turned them off and it seems to work ok now...

Or rather, it appears that the background service is busted. It can't register as a background service. Which would make sense why it has to be "active" for it to work.
