yea, it says explicitly so in the foreword. another book also seems to have zh → en → vi, given some anglicism in the wording. for another one, based on the copyright lines it seems to be translated through… maltese? i don’t know for sure, but if that’s the case, that’d be kinda weird, because i think there’s way more people learning chinese hre than people learning maltese
