Indyhosters and tech collectives like Autistici/Inventati play an important role in democratic societies: By providing tracking-free online services, they show that privacy-preserving communication is possible even though Big Tech and some governments want us to believe otherwise. In doing so, volunteer-run collectives such as A/I protect marginalized communities from surveillance capitalism and authoritarian governments.
