There are many ways to do it, there are always some laws to follow, and then there is much that will be determined by preference of the parents and goals for the kids. I.E. if you want scholastic scholarships to “elite universities” for your kids, you are going to have to plan and live according to those prerequisites.
But most home school parents just want well rounded, non-indoctrinated, and actually educated children — and then there are many exceptions to that

I was homeschooled all the way through high school (back before the concept was close to popular) and now home school my three sons.

Trust me, it’s no luxury, it’s a decision and a commitment which forces you to do certain things, not do certain things, etc

But I have long told my wife, the day the US gov tells us we have to put our kids in public school is the day I’m leaving for another country.
