The Palestinians don’t have any tanks. They don’t have an army. They don’t have an Air Force or a Navy either.

But it doesn’t stop the Israelis treating them as if they were an opposing army by shelling them with tanks.

It is easy to fall into the trap that the Palestinians are somehow different from us after all the photographs of death and destruction. It’s only when we see photographs from before the Israeli attacks that we understand what an attractive, prosperous peaceful place it was and we understand how the people must feel at the loss of their friends, relations, houses and even entire towns.

With these photographs we can start to empathise

@nprofile1q... having just had a conversation with somebody complaining about Immigration, I’m wondering if part of the issue is that people simply have no idea the multiple levels on which the world is now completely connected.
The concepts of the old world, the New World and the Third World are now completely outdated, and everything from food and drink to electrical components as often originated on the other side of the world.
We need them and they need us.

@nprofile1q... there is a fundamental issue with financial regulation. Almost in the same week that brexit took place there was new financial regulation in the EU that would have shut down the U.K.’s money landing centres and colonial tax havens.

Anybody with half a brain could see that brexit was economic suicide, but the millionaire money movers couldn’t afford to lose their loopholes.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... the same arguments are trotted out against cyclists. But all the evidence shows that the more cyclists there are on the road the safer their experience becomes.
So more horses will equal more safety.

@nprofile1q... hydrogen was punted as a sticking plaster solution for those reluctant to give up combustion engines and fossil fuel supply chains. It was portrayed as a “business as usual” solution. But it’s dangerous and uneconomic and profoundly energy-greedy.

@nprofile1q... so what action has the current labour government taken to re-enter Europe? All their statements have been negative about EU membership

@nprofile1q... immediately on Brexit the Scottish government brought out legislation to continue the European regulations to make rejoining much simpler. But London first refused to sign off the legislation and then brought out UK legislation prohibiting it. They don’t want to become part of Europe again because London is the money-laundering capital of the world and as part of Europe they would have to stop.
