Second: Those who know Norse mythology may recall that Odin is served by among many others two ravens, Huginn and Muninn, who regularly bring him information. Their names in Old Norse and subsequent Scandanavian tongues represent and evoke constellations of meaning: Huginn, mind and perception and curiosity and desire; Muninn, affect and will and care and experience and memory. What draws me to their story is that one way of depicting the pair is this: that one of them, Munnin, looks backwards, to remind Odin of what has been; the other, Huginn, looks forward, to tell Odin of what is to come.
As a human who struggles to negotiate the past and the future, again this story resonates with me.
