I don't know if he was suffering or not, bit it might be the case that thisiended the suffering, or ended it before it started
Seeing a suffering "friend" is also very unpleasant
Not saying not to care, simply to try to acept and remember all the good times spent together

Best choice for me is GrapheneeOS, with the tradeoff that you still give money to Google for the Hardware
But if it's the best option as Hardware then that's OK for me
Of course just using Graphene and install any app on it is pointless, it requires some personal effort/willingness to renounce to some convenience
