Self hosted models are relatively dumb. Around 30B is getting usable but you will need hell of a hardware to run huge models at home effectively. Better to have a subscription if you are not using your local setup fulltime.
Claude code completed the task in few minutes vs my RAM hosted 30B model tried to make (edits) on an existing code base in two days! 🤗😭

Totally agree. Good helper for every day tasks but once it goes for the innovative stuff it tries to mold your idea to the well known patterns.

My conclusion after a few days of local llming is that qwen3.5 is the best model for nerds, gemma4 not very impressive and pretty bad at tool use out of the box, maybe this will improve

Gemma is smart but not for agentic stuff. Best for chats and so on. Qwen coder next is the best stuff right now. Running it on CPU which is slow a bit but it is looocaaal!
