Yep, if they want to dedicate resources to censorship. It’s their call. The market will reward or punish them accordingly. As long as the protocol itself doesn’t adopt censorship methods. If it does others will rise to compete and replace it. Sounds a lot like crypto, yeah? 😂

The honeymoon will soon end for #nostr as the hate speech increases along with those demanding changes to censor it. But #nostr is speech for enemies or it isn’t. Just like #bitcoin is money for enemies of it isn’t.

This is a very important conflict that will define the success or failure of Nostr. There will be calls to modify the protocol to grant more power to a few gatekeepers just as there are for bitcoin. Bitcoin’s success has been that it’s, miraculously, resisted these calls for 13 years.

Bitcoin is money for enemies. Nostr is speech for enemies. This isn’t for everyone. There will always be centralized platforms that can censor and remove users. Just as there are centralized financial systems that can censor and remove people. Some will be more comfortable on those platforms. I don’t condone using Nostr or bitcoin for evil. But no one can stop it nor should they be able to.

Nostr is a protocol, not a platform. There is no central authority to remove people from a protocol. Blocking is your only option. Even the creators of apps that use the protocol can’t keep people from using the protocol.
