I built a giant Gravis GamePad and am working on USB adapters for old controllers. I beta-tested Secret Agent HD and UnDune2. I once made Toshiba mad at me over copyright. I post mostly #retrogaming, #3dprinting and #arduino stuff here.

Long shot: Anyone in my circles in #Australia looking to get rid of a working #Apple Mac old enough to have a hardware ADB port (the old-style, 4-pin, round keyboard and mouse plug)? Condition doesn't matter, if it powers on I'm keen on it. A Powerbook 300 with a cracked screen and a dead battery would work for my purposes.

I know USB to ADB adapters exist, my plan is to do stuff with ADB-attached joysticks and gamepads with proprietary drivers that won't work with USB adapters.

New fear unlocked: having to select my timezone from a dropdown list *which is randomly sorted*. Not sorted by GMT offset, not sorted by name - it appeared pretty close to random to me.

If that's the most irritating thing I have to deal with in this current sprint of applying for a new job, though, I'll consider myself lucky.

Adhoc poll: what's the most recent technology you've seen and gone "wow I gotta get that" and spent money to get access to, and were at least mostly happy with? Not something pushed on you, not some ...

@nprofile1q... my USB powered soldering iron. Lightweight, versatile, interchangeable tips aren't a guessing game of incompatibility and unavailability, utter game changer for my hobbies. Suddenly it's no longer a chore to drag the iron out and set it up and wait for the fire to stoke itself sufficiently, it plugs into the same thing on my desk that I use to charge my phone and 30 seconds later it's ready for action.

Starting to properly look into an alternative to #Dropbox or #OneDrive. I'm currently paying AU$109/year ($9/month) for my home Office subscription which includes a terabyte of OD space. Dropbox is $184/year ($15/mo) for 2TB of space. I currently have about 100GB of data to house.

Looks like it costs about AU$80/month to put 100GB of data on a webhost in Australia.

Can anyone suggest somewhere priced in between that'd let me use NextCloud or similar? Boosts and suggestions welcome. #AskFedi

Oh cool - because I turned off "connected experiences" in OneNote forever ago, it's decided today that my main notebook is "broken" in some way, and it is now in read-only mode and I must copy and paste things into a new notebook.

This is for a file that has only ever lived on this computer.

I turned "connected experiences" - an option under account privacy - back on, and then off again, and I can edit my notebook again.

What in the absolute ever-living ocean-going fuck was that, #Microsoft?

⚠️ Heads up - there's a #Mastodon #scam bot doing the rounds. Mastodon does not "temporarily restrict your visibility" - that is simply not a thing here.

If you see a DM or post to that effect begging you to click a link to restore anything, do not click it - report it instead.

You know that thing in Teams meetings where multiple people speak at once, immediately go quiet, then wait a short amount of time to see who speaks up first, and then that person gets to talk?

My entire team appears to be programmed to wait exactly the same amount of time, so we have multiple goes of it, every time.

We need a plugin that detects who actually made a sound first, mutes everyone else, and flashes up a message that says "Sorry, Joshua, you go".
