Not really. The only thing I miss a little bit is perhaps some drama.

Who would've thought the U.S. would descend into Orwellian 1984, while China drifts toward Huxley's Brave New World?

I always assumed their dystopian futures would be the other way around.

Feels like the end of Cixin Liu's Supernova Era, where the two quietly swap roles.

I recently re-read William Gibson’s Neuromancer and Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash. Reading both of this book in today’s context gives a different prespective.

A short post where I compare the tech mentioned in the two books with what we already have now.

Is Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, the #bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto?

There are theories that say he is. You can read what other people had written about all the coincidence that lead them to think that Jack Dorsey is Satoshi. But here is what I find to be interesting.

During late 2008 and 2009 the time when the Bitcoin white-paper was published by Satoshi and the development of the initial Bitcoin network, Jack Dorsey was at that time the co-founder and CEO of Square, a new point-of-sale service that accepts credit and debit cards.

Imagine the CEO of a traditional POS company, traditional in the sense that it is using VISA / MasterCard and conventional banking facilities, is secretly working on a new p2p payment system that would challenge the conventional financial institution system.

It is as if the CEO of the centralised microblogging social media platform, Twitter, had initiated an initiative to create a competing decentralised protocol.

Imagine the CEO of Twitter, while being the CEO of Twitter, starts working on Bluesky.

Actually, that was exactly what happened. Jack Dorsey, was at that time the CEO of Twitter, when he announced the Bluesky initiative to explore the possibility of a decentralised Twitter.

That is crazy, it is like someone who is a board member of Bluesky, donated 14 Bitcoin — over a quarter million dollars at that time — to fund a competing decentralise social network protocol, #nostr .

This time, technically it didn’t exactly happen that way, if my research is correct, Jack Dorsey stepped down from Bluesky board of directors before making that donation to Nostr. But these two events happened in the same year, though.
