Institutions like Casa routinely have to recover a key for people and no one has had any issues with them so far. They’re also the most established and thus most tested (in Europe). Even if they mess up, you still have your two devices.

Regarding the Jade, it is not as active as hiring people to try people break into it when compared to the likes of Trezor. It relies on volunteers.

The only convincing argument I’ve heard is from Yeticold.com which is to get an old laptop and use Core (as this in the most open source and verified code in the history of mankind) and get out of the influencer sphere. And I rank that highly

But I put institutional multisig above a 2-3 of jade. What do you think?

I nearly stopped following Bitcoin because the Core and Knots stuff was so inane

I couldn’t access my funds for a while when the news broke and I had to get someone from our meet up to drive me 5 hours to get what I needed because my car was in a garage and I was just using public transport this week.

I initially moved my funds to a nunchuk hot wallet because my set up was definitely soon on the chopping board.

I went to bed and woke up to see it was also affected by MK4s

I unfortunately moved everything to an exchange despite stacking non-kyc btc for the past three years.

I haven’t slept in 2 days

This is not bitcoins 9/11. This is Bitcoin’s 2008. The entire fabric of security of multiple peoples livelihood has been ripped apart and trusted Bitcoin “institutions” dead. This will have a ripple effect for the next 10 years or more. Bitcoin doesn’t give a shit you lost it.

I am really slow to change my set up. I use to have a Trezor and thought I “levelled up” with coldcard. The dice roll people are right and kudos to them. I read all those guides and thought they were insane. I luckily had a passp because I knew they gave me some individual power but I wasn’t rolling a fucking dice, fuck off (at the time).

I’m still not really sure what to do. My passion is working in medicine. I got into Bitcoin by fluke. I have no major further intellectual depth than my set up. I need time and to be relaxed. I did not prepare for this.

I think I’m going to multisig with an institution. I actually think the dice roll is probably best but I’m stressed and I’d need to learn about it when I’m more relaxed. I know it takes 5 minutes but it can also take 0.5 seconds of one bad decision to fuck it all up.

I don’t know if I’ll ever return to single sig. Or not how I had it anyways. I may restart a non-KYC stack with a dice rolled wallet, keep it small and use it to orange pill some people.

There was already few people I trusted and now there’s even less. Please share anything else I need to know but read @Vlad, Bitcoin Takeover Podcast @Cyph3rp9nk and @Laser before you do.

Good to hear you got it moved. Be very careful with the multisig setup. Make sure you saver your backups correctly and save everything needed to restore your backups.

Multisig is more secure but also more complicated to do safely because it requires you to backup extra things like the wallet descriptor/XPUB. It’s not enough to backup the BIP-39 recovery seed phrases for the devices.

Yes dice roll always good, ironically it’s still ok to do with a cold card now but I would stay away from their products totally now

If you dice roll, none of the generation stuff really matters.

I’d still get a jade - it’s an arms race and air gapping is a bit of a scam. This is what’s fundamentally really more important
