Yeah, although I'm very glad LilyPond uses Guile for its musical objects and you can use it in the input even, I'm wondering how nice it could become if the input was re-imagined as a Guile DSL.

Had a most lovely---almost 2h---video chat session with @nprofile1q... and Timothy Sample (GNU Mes contributor and author of Germ) on the workings of Ekaitz' rewrite of Mes from a Scheme interpreter to a compiler.

AIUI, Guile Scheme has some interesting characteristics that prevent the Mes compiler from using some simple and low hanging fruit performance improvements. Sorry for being vague, Ekaitz can elaborate.

Wondering if these are also "slowing down" Guile so much---and if not, why not?---and if anything could be done about that.

Age verification has nothing to do with "using one's own computer", it's about running the software on a [your] computer (for any purpose; freedom 0).

Just to note that these kind of things have been predicted and warned for since 1983: If you don't [choose to] run free software, you don't own your "computer", the "computer" owns you.

I really don't get the whole idea of the cookie popups on websites.

I mean, everyone always chooses for: essential cookies only? I do, anyway.

Some sites even say: "Don't you want a functional site?", to which I always silently reply: "Knowing that everyone disables all optional cookies anyway, don't you want (to build) to have a functional site?"

I don't care all that much if your site is broken, it's your site, your choice.
