I'm a just a small town AAA graphics programmer in Chicago. I worked on Gears 5 and Gears Tactics. My work is secret, but my personal projects are not.

I barely tried quiet and it seems to have what you are looking for, but since it uses the Tor network to send messages between peers, I don't think it will work for video, chat rooms and images, maybe it will.

so if i were to rent a "server" for "self hosting",

1) what region/country is least likely to introduce draconian anti-privacy laws? eg, not USA, not EU, not Australia, etc

2) and is moderately unlikely to be walled off from the USA? eg I hopefully wont need to convince my friends who are still waffling on whether the discord real ID thing is a bridge too far how to use tor lol

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... somewhere around 2008-2010 I read an essay by a successful game developer who worked on a culturally significant game (I honestly don't remember who or which), and that led to me (and many others) internalizing a philosophy of game design rooted in pavlovian psychology that was in direct conflict with my instincts which resulted in me failing to come up with any ideas I actually liked until I figured out what was going on and banished the memetic parasite.

@nprofile1q... now, a AAA studio on the other hand has a lot of funding, so these things are just a tiny little speed bump on their journey if they have to clean room something. In the end, setting legal traps for people only really hurts the small time developers.
