@nprofile1q... I think the average person is just doing a casual check for a couple names and unless they come across something horrific right away are largely ignoring the rest or waiting for someone else to give them a synopsis on what's in there.

This is an idea I've been fighting with putting succinctly (and failing) for about a year now that relates to how our societies perception that scientific endeavours are the only worthwhile endeavours for human progress, and my concern is that we are willfully ignoring and entire possibility space because it's not profitable, or just really hard to explain.

It's the idea that using a cause and effect solution, or an if/then solution to a problem that has the benefit of human creativity (and thus has endless possibilities) is always going to result in either a large number of bandaid fixes as we discover them, or severely limiting the possibility space to something more controllable and in doing so making the tool less useful. But because most programmers or engineers have never expanded beyond STEM subjects, have never studied philosophy, or art, sociology they're missing entire fields of background knowledge which may be helpful or even groundbreaking. This may already be a solved problem in another field. Maybe there is a technique for helping at risk youth that can be adapted to perfectly solve LLM prompt injection. But we'll never know it because all these dudes study is science and when all you have is a hammer, then everything looks like a nail.

@nprofile1q... There is a larger narrative in here about the engineering mindset attempting to solve what is ultimately a human problem. But I don't have the wherewithal to fully make that argument.

@nprofile1q... EV chargers have software? Aren't they just relays and plugs? I haven't looked at the CCS or NACS standards recently, but I'm pretty sure you can build them purely mechanical.
