Yesterday we played the original Samurai and the updated version Hanami. Both were fun and tbh mostly identical game play. Samurai has a very cool modular board, Hanami has a more kawaii aesthetic. Reminds me a bit of the difference between Bohnanza & Bohnanza: Dahlias (same game, different art). #BoardGames

Played Six Sojourns tonight. There are (wait for it) six variations on the game & we repeated the one that we played at GenCon. This might be my favorite Ryan Laukat game so far - still a bit of storytelling feel, but more of a classic area control game structure than typical for his games. (Also here’s the selfie that @nprofile1q... took with Ryan Laukat, because now that’s his annual GenCon tradition + a photo of the game board from when we played it at GenCon.) #BoardGames

My #GenCon wrap up thoughts…(1/3)
1. The best thing about GenCon: being surrounded by people who are all really excited about playing games & general geekness, whether it overlaps with what you’re into or not.
2. The tornado warning was scary. Everyone did a good job of coping though! The crew did a great job of cleaning up any water in the convention center by this morning.
3. Lodging continues to be a major hassle with attending GenCon.

Played a ton of games today, despite the tornado warning. Started with a preview of Everdell Journeys, really different & fun. Not out yet! Then Dominion Rising Sun, not my thing but the teen loved it. In the BGG Hot Games Room, played Hanami - cute retheme of Samurai. Played a bit of Crew: Journey to the Ends of the Earth, liked it (sold out though). Loved Six Sojourns (Ryan Laukat games are my jam). Wrapped up with Koinobori (eh) & Zombie Princess (Rebel Princess = better). #GenCon #BoardGames

Fantastic day 1 of #GenCon2026! We started at 8am with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Party (fun) & then played Solar Gardens. The teen played in the first round of a Dominion tournament & then met us at the BGG hot games room, where we played Entropy. Or, played enough of it to decide we really want to get it (it’s sold out for the entire con tho *eyeroll at weird logistical decisions by vendors*). Ended with a 4 hour Discworld themed 5e game that was a feminist allegory with an A+ DM. #BoardGames

It’s been a heck of a week, so when I was biking home from a Vision Zero meeting and saw a sign that the new Jeni’s ice cream along the greenway was open, it felt like… well, a sign. #BikeTooter

For any Nashville bike folks here, we’re going to do a pedal to the polls on Saturday 7/25 (meet up starting at 1:30pm, wheels up 2pm). This is early voting for the August 6th election. I need to figure out what congressional district I’m even in now before then, thanks to the latest ridiculous gerrymandering. We had a small group for the last primary ride and it still totally made the day of the poll workers. #BikeTooter #nashville

Plan is to take our bikes across the Potomac after 8:30 tonight and find a spot along the river to watch fireworks. Usually we can just walk to the Mall, but the entire fucking thing is blocked off. ...

@nprofile1q... I was wondering about this bc my spouse & I were just talking about the year we went to DC for the 4th & sitting right next to the reflecting pool for the fireworks. It was amazing. But the photos make it look like all of that is blocked off?
