By hand, for now. Every filmmaker submits a Lightning address with their film. When a commission settles, the ranked votes will get tallied into percentages and one payment per filmmaker will go out. At some point the commissioners will be able to make these payments directly (we're not set up for that yet), and eventually the goal is automated many-to-many settlement: multiple patrons each paying every filmmaker their vote share at once, with nobody custodying anything in between.

Since doesn't exist yet, we're writing it up as an open problem, along with two others (a pledge that locks without custody, a vote count a stranger can check), in a protocol spec Ordain will publish later this summer.

Ordain today is a hand-run proof of concept: the commissioner pays the creator directly, wallet to wallet, and Ordain holds nothing. This award is settling now, not instantly.

What it's built toward is a protocol where every pledge, vote, and payout is a public record a stranger can verify without asking anyone, so that checking up on us stops requiring trust in our answer.

The Roving Reactor, a traveling exhibit about nuclear power, put $1,000 behind one brief on Ordain: show the world abundant energy makes possible. @Nartamoto, who won the @Bitcoin FilmFest Future of Money contest in Warsaw last month, answered with a five-minute film, and the commissioner has awarded the $1K.

Ordain is a commission board for short films, designed to be settled in bitcoin over Lightning. There are no deadlines. A commission stays open until films arrive; the third entry starts a 30-day window for final submissions. Then the commissioner awards half the money and the filmmakers split the other half by ranked vote. Five briefs are live, $100 to $1,000: adapt Kafka's "First Sorrow," show what it's like to be an AI, make the film that makes a stranger commission a film of their own, and more.
