Demand it use everything it builds, end to end before ending its turn. So, the important first step in its plan is always the testing harness. Does it have one already, what would it need to add, etc. If it can run an end to end test then it can check its work, see it failed, loop to fix its failures, etc.

Unit tests, visual regression testing suite, integration testing suite, e2e testing suite etc.

If Nostr, that would include local relays. If streaming, local streaming servers. Etc

That and ask if to create review subagents that focus on documentation, architectural patterns, adversarial use, non-happy paths etc

If it does all that before it comes back to you, the result is more likely to be worth your time to review.

Start with higher level principles, then patterns, then cascade down to individual elements.

If you try to start with individual elements you'll wonder what is the correct answer, and get stuck because their can't be one in isolation.

Allow right answers to fall out of overarching principles by aiming for internal consistency with those principles.

The number one thing I wish I knew before building Nostr native apps on JS.

Schnorr signature verification is expensive on JS.

Having a global accumulator is smart, but if you use the default Nostr tools configuration of verifying every event on the JS thread as it arrives, you will kill your app performance and it will start to become non responsive.

Move schnorr signature verification to native code, not JS. Move hashing too while you're at it.

Verify only new events. Cache all existing events and skip verification on cache.

Yes, run a global accumulator but don't verify anything at all until called.

I delayed the new Shosho app release with zaps and the rest only because I could not get on top of performance. But, this cracked it. Fable built test harness, instrumentation, all of the above, and the result is ~40x faster performance.

Current test built is feeling good, finally!

TLDR: Nostr apps don't need to feel sluggish.
