I spend BTC all the time (after conversion to #monero obviously), doesn't matter if the supply is fixed.

There's a lot of cool Monero people out there, most are not like that. It's the same for Bitcoiners and basically everything else.
And yes, it's important to keep in mind what really matters (about those matters) - and it's not bitcoin vs monero, it's bitcoin + monero.
By the way, criticize Monero all you want. As long as it's coming from a constructive place, it can be useful too. Lack of constructive criticism breeds complacency.

The more we put self-assured useful idiots in their place, the more we can make the atmosphere reasonable.
The problem is that you don't convince anyone with that attitude.
Having misguided ideas and being a misguided person are two wildly different things - one is flexible and changeable, the other is not.
You have to assume - my opinion, anyway - that you can help them see something they are not seeing (and be humble enough to realize it can happen to you too), and the way you do that is not by calling them idiots. It might be satisfying to your ego, but it will only make them dig deeper into theirs.
I am more of the sense that everyone should be trying their best to keep their egos out of it. Ego only distorts, and it's a very low vibration to be in, anyway.
