russia certainly benefits from the presumably lost iran war. the rest does not sound so convincing. russia tried a quick takeover of entire ukraine at the beginning of the war. they failed. now after regrouping they try to conquer at least the more valuable parts of ukraine (in terms of natural ressources) using their meatgrinder warfare.
