Thanks for the reply, I understand. How do the crosses perform? Was it an 'experiment' , or something that is part of your established program?

We had purchased some bred highland cows from a farm that was trying to switch there program to all cross animals. The cows we purchased dropped Angus cross calves. We decided to keep the steers. We sold all the heifers.

The experiment they ran was successful in polling or at least greatly reducing the size of horns on the cross animals. We have seen mixed results on the performance of them. They seem to get sick easier than a highland and are more susceptible to getting pink eye and things. The ones that don't have issues grow a little quicker than 100% highlands, getting larger than a highland and smaller than an angus.

We have a naturally polled highland bull that drops naturally polled calves 50% of the time when bred to highland cows. We like him better than Angus to get no horns.
